Security footage shows the deli worker had already grabbed the 12 inch serrated hunting knife from Bahadoran, who previously worked for Cantor Fitzgerald, before he left Healthy Green Gourmet and ran at officers.

Bahadoran's lawyer, Earl Ward, said the clip 'provides additional evidence that he did not pose a deadly threat to the officers and they shot and paralyzed this man for absolutely no reason.'  Ward added: 'They shot an unarmed man who posed no deadly risk to them and as a result they paralyzed this poor man.'

The NYPD said police 'later learned the knife was located inside of the store'.

Bahadoran, who had been walking his dog, told The New York Daily News he was 'manic, paranoid, scared, anxious' as a result of the George Floyd protests. He added: 'You are watching everything. You are doing things that are not normal.'

The NYPD said in a statement: 'When responding officers arrived, they saw the individual motion toward a large sheath on his waistband. Police later learned the knife was located inside of the store.'

The footage, released by police, shows as Bahadoran follows officers, Jillian Suarez and Melissa Brown, into the deli.

He waves the knife at the two cops before leaving the store without the blade after it was taken by the shop worker.

Before Bahadoran walks out from the deli he has his hands in the air. As he leave he pushed Suarez, whose NYPD dad died on 9/11, and lunges towards other officers arriving on the scene.

Suarez, with her gun raised, repeatedly tells him to 'move back'.

Bahardoran then pushes Lt. Luis Machado before Suarez and another officer, Bryan Rozanski fire a shot each, knocking him to the floor after he was hit in the arm and lower back.

His attorney Ward added: 'I'm troubled that with an ongoing investigation, they have put out video with their interpretation of what happened and that interpretation is simply false.

'Not only didn't he have anything in his hands when they opened fire, he wasn't reaching for anything.'

Bahadoran has been charged with robbery and multiple counts of menacing, The New York Post reports.

He said: 'I wasn’t pushing them. I think I was shooing them. It was like, ‘Get out of my way.’ I wasn’t attacking them. I’ve always been a law-abiding citizen. I just wanted to get home.'
