It’s never easy to witness a death. But it’s especially tragic when it happens to young ones who have so much more to live and experience. It’s not only the loss of a person but also a loss of potential. The void left in one’s heart by their departure rarely ever closes; instead, everyone learns to live with it. Today, the MLB community is mourning one such loss.

Adrien Villegas, a native of The Colony, Texas, passed away a few days ago. Being only 14 years old, he dearly loved baseball. On July 25th, the youngster was on his bike like any other day. But who knew it would be the last time he left his house, never to return?

How Did Adrien Villegas Lose His Life?

According to CBS News Texas, Villegas was on his way to pick up his schedule from school. The youngster was set to start high school come fall and was out on his motorized bike. Around 1.30 p.m., he was crossing the intersection of Main Street and Memorial Drive when a car hit him.

Villegas was immediately taken to Texas Health Presbyterian, but he, unfortunately, succumbed to his injuries on July 27th. The teen would start The Colony High School after graduating from Lakeview Middle School. Post the incident, Mark Villegas, the father of Adrien, spoke with CBS.

Said Mark, “He lived a wonderful life. Touched so many people. He was a baseball excel. That was his thing, baseball. Baseball was his pride and joy, and I lived for it, you know.”

Villegas Sr. seemed heartbroken at the incident, as any family member would be. No charges have been filed as of now, and the car’s driver is cooperating with the police.

It was a bleak day for everyone in the community who was doing their best to support the Villegas family.

The Colony Community Is Devastated

MeLisa Gingrich, the owner of MeLisa The Pie Lady bakery, which is located just down the street from the intersection, was nearby when the accident happened. Said Gingrich, “It just broke our hearts. We were really sorry to hear about it.”

She told CBS that people “drive like crazy,” on Memorial Drive. “They take off from that light, and they’re stepping on the gas as fast as they can. Being a mother myself, you know, it hits you a little bit different.”

Villegas’ neighbors organized a meal train, and someone also set up a donation website to help the family through the tragedy. With awe in his voice, Mark exclaimed, “So amazing…I didn’t expect that. I knew this community was great. I’m blessed, you know, I’m truly blessed.”

May young Adrien find eternal peace!
