If fans were wondering why the much-anticipated super-fight between Anderson Silva and Georges St-Pierre never took place, now you have the answer.

UFC was dominated by three undisputed and undefeated champions back when pound-for-pound best Jon Jones, Anderson Silva, and Georges-St-Pierre ruled their respective division with sheer ease and dominance inside the UFC Octagon. However, none of these fighters have shared the cage against each other.

Soon after the conclusion of UFC 183, Dana White had stated that he is interested in a potential super-fight between the “Spider” and “Rush.” However, the much-anticipated match-up never saw the light of the day.

Soon after the conclusion of UFC Fight Night: Hall vs Silva, UFC President Dana White appeared in the post-match press conference and finally revealed why Anderson Silva never fought Georges St-Pierre.

“Never, GSP didn’t want that fight. We had these deals where at that time Anderson Silva was in a very unique position. He could have gone down and fought Georges St-Pierre, they could have, you know, come up with a catchweight.

“Or he could have moved up and catch-weight with Jon Jones. Silva didn’t want to move up and fight Jones, and GSP didn’t want to move up and fight Silva. So none of those fights ever happened.” White said.

White also revealed that there were plans of Silva vs Jones. However, the “Spider” did not want to move weight to take on the then light-heavyweight champion.

GSP didn’t want to fight Anderson Silva

Georges St-Pierre has often been criticized for playing it safe throughout his MMA career. Needless to say, St-Pierre took on some of the best at the Welterweight division and won in emphatic fashion. However, he never took the risks that Anderson Silva took during his prime years as the middleweight champion.

On the other side, the Spider jumped weight on multiple occasions during his reign as the middleweight champion. Silva took on the likes of James Irvin, Forrest Griffin, and Stephan Bonnar during his title reign.

Needless to say, Silva did incredibly well against the light-heavyweight greats, picking up stoppage victories in all his light-heavyweight bouts as the middleweight champion.
