Yes, the rumours are true ‘Selenators’ (AKA Selena Gomez's loyal fanbase), Rare Beauty has just announced not one but two brand new incredibly exciting makeup drops with the most wholesome range name — the Positive Light.

The Positive Light Silky Touch Highlighter is an ultra glass-like glow of a liquid highlighter in powder form. The Positive Light Under Eye Brightener is a super lightweight liquid that instantly hydrates and awakens under eyes with sheer to medium coverage. “I created this because I needed a quick and easy way to brighten my undereyes and look refreshed, especially on no makeup days. If you’re only putting on one thing, this should be it.” says Selena. With her being one of the masters of no-makeup makeup, means we cannot take her words for granted.

Selena’s baby and business venture launched specially for UK fans back in February, but somehow the brand has managed to shake up the British beauty scene from its core in under a year. It's only right though, Selena herself is quite acquainted with breaking records, being the first Instagram user to reach 100 million followers is just one of seven of them in the Guinness World Records.

Rare being a cruelty-free and vegan beauty brand that features an epic diverse range of products from foundation to highlighters and mascaras, covering your full makeup routine from beginning to end has officially covered all bases (no pun intended). Following the success from the first drop, Rare Beauty is in for a treat with this product extension.

Although some critics may say that the celebrity beauty world is already saturated, Rare Beauty came stepping on everyone's necks with rave reviews coming from social media users and consumers everywhere. The global superstar exclusively tells GLAMOUR that she didn’t come to compete with her peers whom she admires, but to join this wonderful beauty community. “Creating this brand was a way to have open conversations around beauty and mental health and can change the industry by breaking down unrealistic standards of beauty together.” says Selena.

With 361 million Instagram followers and counting, Selena Gomez the brand is a force to be reckoned with, but behind this colossal following and support, Selena Gomez the woman is a 29-year-old full of talent and grit, who doesn’t shy away from sharing her own insecurities and her real-life, low-light reels while carrying deep empathy for those under intense pressures to attain society’s frivolous beauty standards.

Here, ahead of the newest product drop, she opens up about her go-to beauty products, her most chaotic beauty blunders, best tips to stopping intrusive thoughts, and much more Rare gems… It's a good day to be a part of one of the most loyal fandoms on the planet.

What was your relationship with yourself and your appearance growing up?

“Being in the public eye from such an early age certainly comes with a lot of pressure. It’s hard to feel comfortable when you feel like everyone is watching, judging, and commenting on the way you look. Self-confidence is still something I work on daily, but when I stopped trying to conform to society’s unrealistic standards of beauty, my perspective entirely shifted.”

What would you say is Rare's point of difference? And who did you have in mind when making it?

“My hope with Rare Beauty is that we have open conversations around beauty and mental health and can change the industry by breaking down unrealistic standards of beauty together. That’s why launching Rare Impact alongside the brand was so important to me.  We created the Rare Impact Fund to help supply more people with more resources that support their mental health. 1% of all Rare Beauty sales is dedicated to the Rare Impact Fund – and with our launch in the UK, Space NK will be donating an additional 1% of their Rare Beauty sales.”

Did you ever feel pressure to attain any beauty standards set for women in Hollywood?

“Of course. From the time I can remember, I’ve always felt like I had to be perfect or look a certain way. It took me a long time to realise that I only wanted to be myself – that what made me unique was also what made me beautiful.”

Do you have a trick you could share to help stop intrusive thoughts?

“I’m a big advocate for therapy. I also love to keep sticky notes around my house with positive affirmations. I have a lot of various ones, but “I am enough” is a favourite of mine – I call them “Rare Reminders.”  And taking a scrolling break from social media helps!”

What was your most memorable beauty disaster?

“While I was getting ready for the Met Gala a few years ago, we put on a bit of tanning lotion and it looked beautiful – but as the night went on it kept getting darker and darker. When I sat down, I saw a photo of myself, and it looked completely orange. And here I am at this prestigious event – my first thought was – “I have to get out of here!”

What are your go-to / hero products from the range and why?

“This is always such a hard one! Let’s go with:

What are your best tips to make lipstick and lip liner last longer?

“This is really what we had in mind when creating the Kind Words Lip products – something that lasts all day and doesn’t move around. The lipstick is so comfortable, and the liner lasts all day without feeling sticky. To make my lips last all day I like to fill in my entire lip with the liner first because it’s waterproof, and then apply the same lipstick shade over top. Layering creates beautiful long wearing colour.”

Run us through your makeup routine from top to bottom, we need all the details?

“I keep it pretty simple and only use a few products when I’m not filming. I start with a couple of dots of Liquid Touch Weightless Foundation and Liquid Touch Brightening Concealer to even out my skin tone and take away any redness. I follow up with Soft Pinch Liquid Blush and blend it in with my fingers – recently I’ve been loving pairing it with the Positive Light Liquid Luminizer. I’ll finish with the Lip Souffle Matte Cream Lipstick for some colour.”

What beauty / self-care advice do you wish you could give to your younger self?

“I’d tell her that makeup is something to have fun with, but not something you need.  I used to think I needed to wear makeup to feel pretty, and I can definitely say that has changed as I’ve gotten older.”

We're also obsessed with the Kind Words Lip Range too. What was the inspiration behind the empowerment angles when naming the shades?

“The inspiration was from the little post-its I’ve always loved to leave around for myself with positive affirmations – we call them Rare Reminders and they’re notes of self-love. It’s all about using kind words with yourself and with others, and the shades are all-powerful words that you could say to yourself or to a friend.”

Have you got any lip hacks you swear by?

“I like to use a deeper lip liner for more definition and to enhance my lip shape. Then I’ll swipe on a slightly lighter lipstick to make it pop and add volume. I love the liner in Wise and lipstick in Humble for this.”

If your beauty cabinet was on fire, what is one product you’d have to save?

“Oh wow! I guess I’d have to say my moisturiser? Hydrated skin is very important to me – or SPF!”

The honorary English Rose of our hearts has spoken… Lady Selena, can we be your friend?

Rare Beauty's new range is available to buy from Space NK online and nationwide from the 26th December. It's a good day to be a part of one of the most loyal fandoms on the planet…
