Two 16-year-old boys will remain behind bars after facing court charged with the murder of a much-loved Melbourne GP.
The teenage boys were arrested on Wednesday after an investigation into the death of 33-year-old doctor Ash Gordon in Melbourne’s north-east on Saturday.
They were interviewed by Victoria police and both were charged with murder, aggravated burglary and theft.
Gordon was found on Eildon Street in Doncaster about 5.30am by police who were responding to reports of an aggravated burglary at his Sargent Street home.
Police will allege he was involved in a confrontation where he was injured and died at the scene.
The boys faced a children’s court on Thursday afternoon after being brought into court flanked by three police officers.
They stared straight ahead and remained silent during the brief hearing as further court dates were set.
There was no application for bail.
The other boy had refused to allow his parental guardian to be present when he was interviewed by police, a prosecutor told the court.
The prosecutor said police were combing through CCTV footage, analysing phones and awaiting forensic analysis.
She requested 12 weeks to compile a brief of evidence.
The prosecution is also seeking parental approval to obtain DNA from the two boys, the court was told.

The accused teenagers were taken back into custody and will return to court on 8 February for the forensic application.
They will then return for a committal mention on 23 May.
Earlier on Thursday, serious crime division superintendent Janet Stevenson said Gordon was a much-loved and valued member of the community.
Stevenson said investigators had worked “tirelessly” since Saturday to identify, locate and apprehend those allegedly responsible for “this tragedy”.
“We know that Ash’s family and loved ones are grieving. This arrest will not take away the tragedy of this dreadful situation, but we hope that it will alleviate some of their distress. We will continue to provide all the support they require during this difficult time,” she said.
“Ash was a much-loved, valued member of our community, and we are all trying to make sense of what has occurred. This type of incident can create fear and uncertainty. We want our community to feel safe in their homes and to that end, Victoria police will do continue to do everything in our power to make this a reality.”
